Toshiba MKxx39GSL 1.8-inch SATA Mobile HDD Series
Building on its history of innovation and leadership in small form factor hard disk drives, Toshiba offers the industry’s first 1.8-inch drives with low insertion force (LIF) Serial ATA (SATA) connectors. The new MKxx39GSL series offers three models, 160GB (MK1639GSL), 200GB (MK2039GSL) and 220GB (MK2239GSL) capacities. While the LIF SATA connectors enable a 10% smaller footprint compared to standard 1.8-inch drives using microSATA connectors, the MK2239GSL features the largest capacity, 5mm-profile, single platter hard disk drive available in this ultra small form factor. Developed for use in multiple devices, including tablets, consumer electronics devices and external storage solutions, these drives are designed for the most demanding mobile computing applications, surpassing 2.5-inch disk drives in vibration robustness, low power consumption and quiet operation. While featuring a 16MB buffer for improved performance, the drives are built for mobility and tolerate up to 1,500Gs of non operational shock and 600Gs of operational shock, 66% and 50% percent more than the shock tolerance of 2.5-inch disk drives currently available. The drives are exceptionally quiet, operating at 14 decibels at idle and 15 decibels at seek, and also offer extremely low power consumption at low idle (0.35 watts).
